Floyd-Steinberg dithering is an error-diffusion algorithm. When a pixel is quantized (rounded to the nearest available color), the "error" — the difference between the original color and the chosen color — is distributed to neighboring pixels. This creates a natural, noise-like pattern that preserves fine detail.

Ordered dithering uses a fixed matrix pattern (in our case, a 4×4 Bayer matrix) to determine pixel colors. Instead of error-diffusion, it applies a repeating threshold pattern that creates consistent, dot-matrix-like textures.
